SECURITY SITUATION

After the official demand from NATO, for deploying more 14.000 soldiers in Macedonian soil, the minister of foreign affairs, Alexandar Dimitrov, in yesterday’s press conference, said that Macedonia will request security guaranties and that this troops would not be offensive, and also Macedonian Government requested temporarily sojourn of NATO soldiers to be conjoined with financial arrangement for indemnifying Macedonian economy.

 

NUMBER OF REFUGEES

According to the Ministry of Interior (MVR), in the last 24 hours, 580 refugees entered Macedonia. Also 44 illegal entries were registered. The total number of refugees in Macedonia now is 273.845, while 144.127 of them have the status of humanitarian cared people. 99.718 refugees have been settled in camps, most of them in camp Cegrane - 41.976, then came Stenkovec 1 and 2 with 32.412 refugees, Senokos - 7.068, Neprosteno - 7.045, Bojane - 3.509 and Radusa has 2.510 refugees.

Yesterday, 1.677 refugees were transferred to third countries using airlift. Up to now, 72.752 refugees left Macedonia using airlift.

UNHCR officials in Macedonia, stressed their concern about decreasing number of refugees in Macedonian border, because they had reports from their sources in New York that in serbian side of the border there have been tens of thousands of refugees, and every their trace is lost.

 

CAMPS

According to the daily newspaper Nova Makedonija, UNHCR spokesman in Geneva, Chris Ianowski, said that another refugee camp, near to the already existing camp in Cegrane, would be built in Macedonia. Its capacity will be for about 20.000 refugees and it will be ready for one week.

According to the daily newspaper Vecer, yesterday, about 5:10 o’clock, in acceptance center Cegrane, the refugee Afrim Iseini stabbed with a poniard his brother Florin Iseini, and slightly injured him. After that the escaped from the acceptance center. The injured refugee was cared medically in Norway hospital in camp, while police is making efforts to catch the attacker.

SUPPORT

According to the daily newspaper Dnevnik, even that nobody wants to confess that publicly, kosovar refugees settled in camps in Macedonia don’t want to go to Albania because they are afraid that will be mobilized by UÇK (KLA). In UNHCR are saying that mainly reasons why refugees don’t want to go to Albania, is feeling that here they are closer to their homes, and also the fact that from Albania they can’t go to another countries.

According to the daily newspaper Makedonija Denes, in Arachinovo, Skopje, more than 3.500 kosovar refugees have been settled. They are facing existence problems: furnishing of stores, lack of humanitarian aid, improper drinkable water etc.

According to the daily newspaper Flaka, these days in Kumanovo and Likovo, more than 80 tones of humanitarian aid were distributed by the Government United Arab Emirates.
