NUMBER OF REFUGEES
According to Ministry of Interior (MVR), in the last 24 hours, 1.145 refugees entered Macedonia. The total number of refugees in Macedonia now is 227.013, while 128.381 of them have the status of humanitarian cared person. 82.313 refugees have been settled in camps and 114.640 in families.
Yesterday, 1.247 refugees were transferred to third countries using airlift. Up to now, 55.752 refugees left Macedonia using airlift.
According to the daily newspaper Dnevnik, about 100.000 kosovar refugees want to enter Macedonia, informed radio "Voice of America", according to the statements of eyewitnesses.
UNHCR representative, Ron Redmond, yesterday said that Serbian forces ordered a train packed with about 2.000 kosovar Albanians to return to Kosovo after refusing to allow them to cross into Macedonia in borderland General Jankovich. Redmond was concerned because after the train was turned back few explosions were heard in the Yugoslav territory.
CAMPS
According to the daily newspaper Makedonija Denes, the health condition of refugees settled in camps is the same as previous days - without bigger problems. Macedonian Institute for health support says that lab analyses showed no appearance of bacteria that could cause cholera and dysentery.
According to the daily newspaper Flaka, yesterday 960 kosovar refugees came in camp Cegrane from borderland Bllace. So the total number of refugees in this camp is 32.310. Drinkable water is still the main problem in this camp.
SUPPORT
Macedonian president Kiro Gligorov, yesterday visited refugee camps Bojane and Stenkovec. He said that refugee camps are good example of international solidarity, and that Macedonia is making maximal efforts to help refugees and make their life easier. Hi also said that gesture of Turkish President, Suleyman Demirel, who gave 100.000 US dollars for providing equipment for camps Bojane and Stenkovec, is very noble.
According to the daily newspaper Dnevnik, Macedonian medical institutions didn’t get from foreign humanitarians what they expected. Medical support of refugees costs Macedonian government about 4 million German marks per month, while UNHCR, still haven’t gave promised help of 800.000 US dollars. Up to now just 200.000 vaccines have been gave form UNICEF and SZO.
According to the daily newspaper Nova Makedonija, up to now, German Red Cross has distributed humanitarian aid valuable to about 20 millions German marks in Macedonia. In camp Stenkovec 1, also is already working a hospital of German Red Cross. There are about 80 beds for patients, while in the moment about 30 refugee patients are settled there.
According to the daily newspaper Flaka, Workers University in Tetovo will organize free courses for refugees about computers, hair cutting, sewing etc.
According to the daily newspaper Fakti, HO "El Hilal" is continuing to provide humanitarian aid for refugees, which is coming from different world humanitarian organizations. The head of this HO, Abdurauf Pruthi, said that, Mrs. Hilary Clinton and also famous actor Roger Moore, praised their humanitarian work.
According to the daily newspaper Fakti, HO "Mother Teresa" in Gostivar distributed considerable humanitarian aid for refugees settled in this region. Among other aids they have provided, they gave 30 tones of clothes for refugees settled in camp Cegrane.
