SECURITY SITUATION
The supreme commander of NATO forces for East Europe, Wesley Clark, yesterday visited Republic of Macedonia. After the meeting with Macedonian premier, Lubço Georgievski, General Clark said that the biggest win in the war, is to make peace. The priority is returning of refugees, but even after this, we will never forget the hospitality of Macedonian government.
More than 36 hours the Yugoslav border was let without a regular police and tax control. But, when American marines entered in the Kosovo territory, the border was under their control. In the last hours in the Macedonian-Yugoslav border only the KFOR units are crossing the border with Kosovo.
THE NUMBER OF REFUGEES
According to the Ministry of Interior (MVR), in the last 24 hours, 100 refugees entered Macedonia, 23 of them entered in the Tabanovce border land in the legal way, while 70 illegal refugees also have been registered. The total number of refugees in Macedonia now is 250.891, while 154.374 of them have the status of humanitarian cared people. 96.517 refugees have been settled in nine camps around Macedonia.
Yesterday, 153 refugees have been transferred to England using airlift. Up to now, 97.982 refugees left Macedonia using airlift.
CAMPS
According to the daily newspaper Nova Makedonija, in Macedonia will be built new camp for kosovar refugees, which will be financed by Slovenia. According to the information the camp should be located near the Dojran Lake. But this decision should be examinated, when we have in regard the ecological catastrophe in this region. This agreement has been made with the Macedonian Red Cross. Just in five days in an action in Slovenia the 4.500 donators gathered 400.000 German marks. According to the president of the Foundation for financing the humanitarian and invalid organization in Slovenia Janko Kushar, this activity will help many kosovar refugees for building their houses.
SUPPORT
The humanitarian organization Karitas this summer for refugee child’s from many camps will organize "The enjoyment caravan". In this caravan will participate about 150 children from 5 to 14 years from each camp. The project was organized by volunteers of Karitas and children embassy Megashi and will work six months. The caravan is a fulfillment of activities that are taking place now in camps Radusa 1 and 2. Every day there are going teams from Karitas and children embassy, and they working with the children’s individually or in-groups.
The Red Cross of Macedonia in cooperation with other organization, organized an activity for refugee kids and they send them in summer school, so about 101 students from Kicevo has been settled in place Pretor near the Prespa lake.
