SECURITY SITUATION
Representatives of NATO and Yugoslav army, the day before yesterday, about 22:00 o’clock, in sport airport "Hajitepe" in Kumanovo, signed military-technical agreement for withdrawing of serbain forces from Kosovo. The NATO General, Mike Jackson, said that KFOR forces will be deployed in Kosovo very soon to carry out the agreement and to provide conditions for safe come back of refugees to their homes - of those who are in Kosovo and of those who are outside of Kosovo. While the Yugoslav army representative said that war ended and that policy of peace win.
According to NATO sources, Serbian forces started their withdrawal from Kosovo. The information is saying that they are going in direction of Serbia. After the conversation with General Wesley Clark, is expecting that the secretary general of NATO to give order to stop air attack.
Macedonian Prime Minister, Ljubco Georgievski, who is in official visit to Taiwan, stated that now priority has returning back of refugees to Kosovo, peacefully, but that is not going to be so easy.
NUMBER OF REFUGEES
According to the Ministry of Interior (MVR), in the last 24 hours, 132 refugees entered Macedonia, 101 in the borderland Tabanovce and 21 in the borderland Blace. Also 27 illegal crossborders have been registered. The total number of refugees in Macedonia now is 272.994, while 153.801 of them have the status of humanitarian cared people. Most of refugees, 52.214 are settled in Skopje, then 41.656 in Tetovo, 21.032 in Gostivar, 13.252 in Kumanovo, 9.341 in Debar and 3.907 in Struga. 98.193 refugees have been settled in camps. The number of refugees in camps is following: in camp Cegrane - 40.242, in Stenkovec 1 and 2 - 37.209 refugees, in Neprosteno - 7.384, in Senokos - 6.889, in Bojane - 3.512 and in Radusa - 2.019 refugees.
Yesterday, 931 refugees were transferred to third countries using airlift. Up to now, 85.947 refugees left Macedonia using airlift.
CAMPS
According to the daily newspaper Fakti, the day before yesterday, about 7 o’clock a fire was caused in camp Neprosteno and two tents were burned totally and another two were damaged. There are no injured refugees. Also the refugees of this camp protested and they requested better life conditions.
SUPPORT
UNHCR, together with some other humanitarian organization, in the last days is working on a program of returning back refugees to Kosovo. The program will be realized in four phases. In the first phase, a team of 7 members will make monitoring of all sectors in Kosovo. In this phase 30 other organizations will be included, which will be responsible for providing food and clothes for refugees. In the second phase 7 centers will be established in some cities of Kosovo and also will be provided food and other aid for refugees. In the third phase refugees will be informed about security situation in Kosovo. Just for the first phase 100.000 million US dollars are needed.
The secretary general of HO "El-Hilal", Behijudin Shehapi, in yesterday’s press conference, positively appreciated signing of agreement for returning back refugees to their homes. They will be included in some programs of foreign humanitarian organizations returning back refugees. Also this organization is continuing to distribute aid to refugees in Macedonia. From June 1 until 10, in this organizations 29 trucks with aid from different foreign humanitarian organizations have arrived. In cooperation with "Care International" from Australia, a big project of distributing 142 tones of conserved meat is going on.
