SECURITY SITUATION

According to all the daily newspapers, after the incident in Kumanovo, when a NATO vehicle was hit by antitank missile, the NATO spokesman in Macedonia said that in the future, soldiers would use the right of self-protection, which means that they will shoot.

According to all the daily newspapers, in an interview for "Daily Telegraph", Macedonian primeminister Ljubco Georgievski stressed his concern about possibility of revolt of citizens, if the West doesn’t help in reducing economical difficulties, that Macedonia faces, as a result of Kosovo crisis.

NUMBER OF REFUGEES

According to all the daily newspapers, and information from Ministry of Interior, during the holidays of 1 May, 18.979 new refugees entered Macedonia. Up to 2 May, 213.242 refugees were registered in Macedonia, while 95.450 refugees have the status of humanitarian cared person. Until yesterday, 33.259 refugees have been transferred from Macedonia to third countries. 63.000 refugees are settled in camps Stenkovec 1 and 2. Germany, yesterday said that could accept 20.000 refugees.

CAMPS

According to all the daily newspapers, the government plans to extent the camp in Cegrane. Until yesterday, 10.000 refugees were settled there, while its capacity is about 14.000 refugees.

It is accented a case of a patient, who was refused in Skopje hospital, although that in the camp couldn’t help him. According Dr. Hysen Hiseni, tuberculosis and other contagious diseases could appear in this camp.

According to the daily newspaper Fakti, camp in Neprosteno is overcrowded, and has been made efforts to extend it.

According to all the daily newspapers, yesterday in Macedonia arrived British primeminister Tony Bler, who said that his country would help Macedonia financially, and that all the refugees will be returned in Kosovo. French primeminister Lionel Jospen, who came in Macedonia a few days ago, signed a protocol for financial help valuable to 45 millions of franks with Macedonian primeminister Ljubço Georgievski. The Minister of foreign affairs of Canada, Lloyd Axvort, said in Skopje, that his country decided to give 35 millions of Canadian dollars for refugees, and also that his country will accept 5.000 refugees. The Minister of foreign affairs of Japan, Masahiko Komura, who was in Macedonia, said that his government decided to help the region with about 200 millions of American dollars. 60 millions of that sum will be given to Macedonia and Albania.

According to all the daily newspapers, a NATO official, yesterday said that the Alliance will begin building camps in Albania, where about 60.000 refugees, that in this moment are in Macedonia, will be settled.

According to all the daily newspaper, the Macedonian primeminister, Ljubco Georgievski, in a visit to the camp in Cegrane, said that, except Taiwan, that gave 2 millions of American dollars aid, Macedonia didn’t get financial help at all, form the international community.

According to all the daily newspaper, American actor Richard Gere, yesterday finished his visit to Macedonia. Before leaving the country, he said that what happened to kosovar Albanians is the biggest catastrophe in the region, and that NATO members should convince Macedonia that they will compensate Macedonia’s expenditures and that the refugees will not remain here. He, also, said that new camps should be built.
